CLEAR Retainers by CFL
A clear, removable retainer that quietly holds your teeth in position after treatment.
What it is
CLEAR Retainers by CFL is the standard clear thermoformed retainer made under Clear Fusion Lab’s own branding. You may also hear this style called an “invisible” retainer. It is a passive, removable appliance designed to hold your teeth in position after active orthodontic treatment.
Passive means that the retainer holds the result of treatment rather than applying force to make active corrections. Its role is “stay there,” not “let’s rearrange the furniture.”
Despite the similar names, this standard retainer is not the patented Clear Fusion or Everlast retainer. Those are different products made from a thermoformed shell with acrylic bonded to it. If you are unsure which kind you have, your dentist or orthodontist can identify it for you.
Who it’s for
Your dentist or orthodontist may prescribe this retainer when a clear, removable design is appropriate after treatment. A retainer can help maintain tooth position, the shape of your dental arch, the way your upper and lower teeth meet, spaces closed during treatment, or the results of widening an arch. Your own treatment plan determines which goals apply to you.
Because it is removable, this retainer depends on you following the wear plan. It is not intended to move teeth actively or make major changes to your bite or arch size. Your dentist or orthodontist will decide whether this design fits your needs; mouths have never been especially interested in one-size-fits-all solutions.
What to expect
Your retainer may be made for your upper teeth, lower teeth, or both. Your dentist or orthodontist will tell you how and when to wear it. Schedules vary, so follow the instructions created for you—not a friend’s plan or a relative’s confident memory from years ago.
In some cases, your orthodontist can arrange for the finished retainer to be sent to your home instead of the dental office. Ask your orthodontist whether that arrangement applies to you. A retainer case may also be included; ask your orthodontist what to expect and how they want you to store the appliance.
Caring for it
Follow your dentist’s or orthodontist’s directions for cleaning, handling, and storing your retainer. Keep up the oral-hygiene routine they recommend as well. Proper care matters because removable retainers can develop staining or odor buildup.
Use the insertion and removal method your clinician shows you. Excessive force or improper handling can damage or break the retainer. When it is out of your mouth, put it in the storage place your treating office recommends. Left loose, a removable appliance has a remarkable talent for disappearing.

When to contact your dentist
Contact your dentist or orthodontist if your retainer does not fit properly, becomes damaged or broken, is lost, or has a rough or extended edge that irritates your mouth. Also get in touch if you cannot follow the prescribed wear schedule or believe your teeth are moving.
Ask your treating clinician for advice if you think your teeth need active correction. This retainer is meant to hold tooth position, not move teeth back after they have shifted. Your dentist or orthodontist can examine the fit and your tooth positions and decide whether your retention plan is still appropriate.
